Business Innovation Stream

 

This visa is intended for people with a successful background as a business owner. Western Australian State Nomination criteria includes:

 

  • You have a score of at least 65 on the Business Innovation and Investment Points Test;

  • For two of the last four fiscal years you have held an ownership interest and directly managed up to two main businesses which had a minimum annual turnover of A$500,000 in each of those years;

  • Your total business and personal assets have a net value of at least A$850,000 which is to be transferred to Australia within two years of visa grant;

  • You have not been engaged in a business where the provision of professional, technical or trade services took up more than 50 per cent of your time;

  • andYou are less than 55 years of age, or you are proposing to participate in a business or investment activity which will be of exceptional economic benefit to the State (refer to the State nomination guidelines)

The majority of 188 Business Innovation and Investment – Business Innovation Stream visa holders will become eligible for permanent residence under the 888 Business Innovation and Investment visa– Business Innovation Stream once they have owned and managed a business in Western Australia for at least two years and met the relevant criteria.

 

 

 

Investor Stream

 

This visa is intended for people with a successful background in managing businesses or financial investments. Western Australian State Nomination criteria includes:

 

  • You have a score of at least 65 on the Business Innovation and Investment Points Test;

  • You have had a total of at least three years experience of direct involvement in managing one or more qualifying businesses or eligible investments;

  • For one of the last five fiscal years, you:directly managed a business in which you (or your partner or you and your partner together) held an ownership interest of at least 10 per cent; OR

  • you directly managed your (or your partner’s or you and your partner’s combined) investments worth at least A$1,500,000;

  • For each of the last two fiscal years, your total business and personal assets had a net value of at least A$2,250,000;

  • You are able to make a Designated Investment of A$1,500,000 with the Australian Treasury Corporation for a four year term;

  • You are able to transfer additional funds of A$50,000 for your settlement and ongoing living costs in Australia;

  • andYou are less than 55 years of age, or you are proposing to participate in a business or investment activity which will be of exceptional economic benefit to the State (refer to the State nomination guidelines)

 

The majority of 188 Business Innovation and Investment – Investor Stream visa holders will become eligible for permanent residence under the 888 Business Innovation and Investment visa– Investment Stream once they have held the required Treasury Bonds in Western Australia for at least four years and met the relevant criteria.

Significant Investor Stream

 

This visa is for applicants intending to make a significant investment(s) in Australia for a period of at least four years. This visa leads to permanent residency with the option to extend the initial four year term of the visa (see Provisional Visa Extension below).The applicant has a genuine intention to reside in the State or Territory whose government agency nominated the applicant.

 

Western Australian State nomination criteria includes:

  • You have business and/or personal assets of at least A$5,000,000 which are available for investment in a complying investment(s) in Australia immediately prior to visa grant; and

  • You have an additional A$50,000 which is available for domestic and/or settlement purposes;Applicants will be considered on a case by case basis with the contribution to the Western Australian economy being the prime factor considered for approval of State nomination.

 

What are complying investments?

Complying investments for the Significant Investment Visa include:

  • Western Australian State Government bonds;

  • Australian Securities and Investment Commission (ASIC) regulated managed funds with a mandate for investing in Australia; and

  • Direct investment into Australian proprietary companies.

 

*Note – if investing in a business it must be a “qualifying business”, that is, it is operated for the purpose of making profit through the provision of goods, services or goods and services to the public and is not operated primarily or substantially for the purpose of speculative or passive investment.

How to apply

 

STEP 1:

Lodge an application for State Nomination with the Business Migration Centre (BMC). 

 

STEP 2:

If you are granted State Nomination you can proceed to lodge an Expression of Interest (EOI) throughSkillSelect.

 

STEP 3:

Once nominated in SkillSelect by the BMC, you will receive an invitation from Department of Immigration and Border Protection to lodge your Business visa application which must be completed within 60 days using Department of Immigration and Border Protection’s electronic lodgement system.

 

Provisional Visa Extension

Applicants may be eligible for a maximum of two additional two year extensions on their provisional visa. You must first obtain State nomination before you apply for an extension. Please refer to Department of Immigration and Border Protection’s extending your visa information in the “visa holders” section on SkillSelect.
